The Northern Railway has started a double-Decker container train between Patli near Gurgaon in Haryana and the Mundra Port in Gujarat. This initiative will increase efficiency and volume.
This is the first double-stack container train by the Northern Railway and the second route over the Railways. This service will bring the entire National Capital Region of Delhi on the double-stack container circuit, running 9”6″ high double stack containers that can carry more load. The National Capital Region handles over a million containers per annum.
The Railways first tried the double-stack container train service on March 23, 2006 2006 between Jaipur and the Pipavav Port in Gujarat, a distance of 950 km. After 22 years the idea was introduced in the West in 1984, a statement from the Northern Railway said.
