India’s largest wind turbine manufacturer Suzlon Group has announced the signing of an order with Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (GSFC) to set up, operate and maintain 50.4 MW wind energy projects. The project involving 24 units of Suzlon’s S88–2.1 MW wind turbine will come up in wind farms operated by Suzlon in the Rajkot and Surendranagar districts of Gujarat by September 2011.
This is GSFC’s fifth order with Suzlon. The new projects will increase GSFC’s total wind power capacity to 123.4 MW. GSFC currently has existing projects of 73 MW in Gujarat located in the Kutch and Porbandar districts. GSFC’s 10 MW project at Bada village in the Kutch district is the company’s first wind energy project to be successfully registered under the UN Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), earning carbon credits. Other projects are in the process of being registered.
