The Gujarat Government is taking steps to improve air connectivity so that foreign tourists can fly into Ahmedabad or Surat and fan out to other destinations in the State. For this purpose, the tourism department has tied up with Air Deccan which will run two ATR flight daily from Ahmedabad and Surat to 11 other airports in the State. This was announced by Mr. Vipul Mittra, Principal Secretary, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Government of Gujarat, while addressing media persons at FICCI’s Great Indian Travel Bazaar 2011 in Jaipur yesterday.
According to sources Air Deccan founder Captain GR Gopinath’s new company ‘Deccan 360’ will run the intra-state air services with two ATR turbo 60-seater planes in Gujarat covering 11 cities – Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Porbandar, Bhuj, Mundra, Jamnagar, Gandhidham and Junagadh with Ahmedabad and Surat as hubs.
The state government is expected to release the aviation policy soon. Such policy is likely to contain incentives for intra-state operation.
