Kendle India, a subsidiary of US based Kendle group, a fifth largest global clinical research organization (CRO) with about $ 415 million net revenues in 2009, has become the first company to start its operation in Mindspace, Gujarat’s first special economic zone for IT/ITES, developed by Mumbai-based K Raheja Corp on Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar Knowledge Corridor.
According to senior director, South East Asia/India, Kendle, Bharat Doshi, the activities will be focused on clinical data management, bio-statistics, statistical programming, pharma co-vigilane, medical writting and other non-clinical processes in which IT is involved.
The company has kick started its operation with strenth of 50 employees and will gradually increase its strength to 300. The office space which is presently around 14,000 square feet will be gradually increased to 84,000 square feet according to Doshi.
“Continued expansion throughout the Asia/Pacific region is crucial to the future growth of Kendle. The new SEZ operations center will be ideally suited to deliver best-in-class services to our customers seeking high-quality, innovative and cost-effective solutions for their clinical development needs,” said Stephen Cutler, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
By 2012, analysts project that more than 65 percent of all FDA-regulated trials will take place outside the United States, according to Kendle. This is reflected in the Indian biotechnology market, which is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 30 percent, and the Indian CRO market, which is expected to see growth of 49 percent annually, according to the company.
Apart from the India locations, Kendle already has a strong footprint across the Asia-Pacific region with offices in Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai in China, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Bangkok in Thailand, Manila in Philippines and in Sydney and Melbourne in Australia.
Mindspace IT/ITeS SEZ, by Mumbai-based real estate company K Raheja Corp in Gandhinagar is spread over 66 acres where five lakh square feet office space tower and 10 acres landscape exist as of now. Another five lakh square feet office space tower is under construction. K Raheja Corp has been allotted about 93 acres of government land of which 68 acres is notified for SEZ while 25 acres is for supporting activities. The developer plans to set up about 15 buildings comprising about 10-15 million sq ft of space for IT/ITES.
In Gujarat About 16 IT/ITES SEZs have been notified in the last three years, all of which are yet to commence operations due to various reasons.
be careful with these companies…they r very cunning…they’ll conduct human trial that will never be allowed to carry on in US or other developed countries.

Patni computer Systems also arrived and within 15 days they have increased the limit from 50 to 175.
Other compnies also going to come.
It’s a total success project by Raheja.
