Torrent Pharma commissions Human Insulin plant for Novo Nordisk at Kadi
Ahmedabad based pharma major Torrent Pharmaceuticals on Saturday commissioned a new $ 11 million(Rs 51 crore) human insulin manufacture facility exclusively for global healthcare major Novo Nordisk.
The new unit situated at Torrent Pharma’s existing facility at Kadi, is an integrated manufacturing and vial packaging plant with a capacity to manufacture 26 million vials annually. Insulin is formulated from insulin crystals supplied by Novo Nordisk, Denmark. The new facility will comply with the stringent quality norms practiced globally by Novo Nordisk. Torrent Pharma is the manufacturer of Insulin formulations for Novo Nordisk in India since 1992.

In his interaction with media, Jesper Hoiland, senior-vice president, Novo Nordisk said that India has the largest number of people with diabetes in the world. “These growing numbers of people with diabetes are in constant need of proper care and timely treatment including the need for sustained insulin supply.”
Sanjay Dalal, Chief Operating Officer, Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd, said, “Torrent Pharma has been the sole manufacturer of insulin for Novo Nordisk since the early ‘90s and this dedicated facility is a testimony of our strong relationship. The facility and products will comply with stringent global-quality norms. Diabetes therapy is a focus area for the company and the new capacity of 26 million vials will help us meet the increasing demand for our products in India.”
