Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated state-of-the-art new Birla Century Textile mill at Jhagadia in Bharuch district. Birla Century is a division of Century Textiles and Industries Limited. Birla Century product range includes Shirtings, Suitings, Fancy and Finer Fabrics, Bed and Cover, Bed Linen and ready to wear garments.
Birla Century is spread over 100 acres of land.The total constructed area of the mill covers about 45 acres of land and another 40 acres has been utilized for landscaping. The mill has a capacity of producing around 25 million meters of high quality fine and super fine 100% cotton fabrics. The mill has been relocated here from Maharashtra with investment of Rs. 850 crore. It will provide employment to about 1,000 persons.
Commenting on the opening of the mill Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla said, “We are extremely thankful to the Gujarat Govt. especially Mr. Narendra Modi for supporting our endeavors in continuing the legacy of the Birla Group. We expect Birla Century to have a turnover of about Rs. 500 crore with around 50% of earnings coming from exports to countries like USA, UK, Europe and Japan.”
Set up with an investment of about Rs. 850 crore Birla Century has state-of-the-art machines with about 95% of them imported from countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and USA. Birla Century also has an Effluent Treatment Plant with zero discharge and a captive power plant generating energy from piped natural gas.
CTIL Chairman Mr. B K Birla, Shri Saurabh Patel, Minister of State for Finance & Energy, Mrs. Sarala Birla, Mrs. Rajashree Birla and Mrs. Neerja Birla were also present in the function.
Leading companies like Gujarat Guardian, Hoechst, Rallis, Sandoz, DCM, Modipon, PepsiCo, Huber and Vardhaman Group, have manufacturing facilities at Jhagadia.
Lanxess , the German specialty chemicals group, is relocating its rubber chemicals facility from Thane in Maharashtra to Jhagadia. This will be its second production site in India after Madurai in Tamil Nadu and will be the bigger of the two and will start commercial production in 2010.
In another event nearby at Dahej in same district, Chief Minister Modi laid foundation stone of Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited(GACL) Hydrogen Peroxide phase 3 unit(Rs 98 crore), Stable Bleaching Powder and Caustic Soda expansion projects(Rs 45 crore and Rs 12 crore) at GACL complex.
Chief Minister Modi also dedicated 39 MW Windfarm phase-2 Shinoi project. GACL has invested Rs 240 crore in this project in cooperation with Suzlon.
