Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA) will be wooing pharma players in Gujarat to set up their R&D facilities in Netherlands.

Keen to tap the potential of the Rs 13,000 crore pharma industry in Gujarat, the NFIA wants to have Indian companies, especially from Gujarat, to help developing new products on the basis of excellent research being done in Netherlands.

It should be noted here that the Reserve Bank of India released its 2008-2009 outward FDI report, marking Netherlands the second preferred FDI investment destination from India after Singapore. Netherlands received 17% of all cleared proposals in the last financial year.

“Companies exporting their products to Europe feel the need to be closer to their customers. Pharmaceutical companies should keep in mind that Netherlands has excellent pharmacological research. Co-operation with our research institutes is possible, ” said Robert Schipper, executive director, NFIA who was on a visit to Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
